The only thing is, that the myth is not put to rest. The myth was given back its context, by which it became information. So now we know that information transfer is dependent on the situation in which the information is being given. If it is information that transfers an opinion or a feeling the Mehrabian equation still stands. If it is factual information we should let go of the equation.
A point of contention with this presentation however is the fact that the writers act as if Mehrabian ment that you could use the three communication aspects separate of each other. But that would be like saying I can drive a car if I only use the motor or the tires. You need the combination of the three aspects to bring your message. How important sound is you can see on internet where people write as they talk. Before you know it people are battling it out over a word they interpret differently from the user.
So it is the system of communication that is important, not its parts.

I love the way these people present their ideas. And I also love seeing this myth put to rest as well.
Thanks Rodney, here is also an article: http://www.creativityworks.net/mehrabian-nights-an-informative-tale-about-miscommunication/
