I am blogging, I'm on LinkedIn, I'm on Facebook, I'm on Plaxo... During the last few weeks I have had quite a few people advising me to start Twittering. Sometimes they ask me if I Twitter and they look surprised when I answer 'no'. Apparently I am missing something! So now I am wondering... what is Twitter? I understand it is something on which you write several times a day what you are doing? Hmm... this does not convince me to go ahead and do it. Doesn't that cost a lot of time? It seemed like a good idea to ask for advice here. So, who can explain what Twitter is and what you can do with it. (And: doesn't it cost a LOT of time...?)Update: following some advice I got, I have started to twitter so that I can find out what it is... (see the menu bar on the right).

Hi Coert,
First a disclaimer, I'm not twittering. :)
Now, the main idea behind twittering is having a voice. Blogs are fine but it is easier to twitter and a lot of people prefer it.
Take a look at this clip, it answers another question but you will get a better idea about what kind of a service Twitter provides.
People will start paying increasing amounts of attention about what other people are talking within a certain domain.
Right now if someone goes to search.twitter.com and tries to find what people are talking about "Solution Focused Change", they will find NOTHING. Solution focused brief therapy brings some results tho...
Take a look at this page:
A Minimalist’s Guide to Using Twitter Simply, Productively, and Funly
It might help you get a better perspective.
I would also like to add that I'm not twittering because I don't have a voice, I don't have what to say, I don't have a subject to talk about, you do!
Hi Peter, thank you! It seems Twitter is one of these Internet things you only can start to get when your playing with it, right?
But.... you say you don't have anything to say?? Then how come your comments are so well-informed?
Hi Coert, I think Twitter is rather more direct and controllable than a blog for the reader - you can turn it on and off very easily, it's very instant, you can resend people's useful posts/tweets very easily. The short format (140 characters) produces a different kind of post than blogs (though you can link to blog posts from tweets, also pics etc). AND you can set Twitter up so that each update goes straight to Facebook and anywhere that can take an RSS feed, so it can go to your blog or other page without any more intervention.
Cheers
Mark
I just deleted a long explanation about how my mind is chaotic and my sense of worth is very low....
You're right! I should speak louder!
Thanks!
Hi Mark, thanks, I have started to try it out and I looked you up on twitter
Hi Peter, go for it and good luck!
I am reminded by something I read years ago by psychologist Robyn Dawes: "To accomplish change, it is not necessary to feel wonderful about ourselves first."
I guess twitter for me is allowing another way of having a dialogue with others, whether sharing ideas, commenting on issues or events or just getting inspired.
I'm a great believer in the power in networks and twitter has been very useful in many projects I've been involved in.
Hi Carl, Thanks for your comment. I saw you on twitter. I read you make music? interesting, what kind of?
