Breaking self-made rules in order to remain safe

"Any rules we found ourselves making we would generally try and break. It always seemed an unsafe idea to try to be safe."

This quote reminded me of the following quote:

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it... Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."

- Helen Keller

Hi Peter, thanks, quite right, I think. By the way, I came across this quote conincidentally and I thought it fitted well with our previous posts and threats of examing critically some Sf rules like doing what works, don't you?

(also it was a good excuse for me to add a youtube video of some of my favorite music :)

:) it looks to me like you really "saw" that quote by de Mello about the "unremitting readiness to admit you may be wrong". :)

I find this to be great. Having rules is great but having a willings to break the rules might be even better. It means that you control the rules not the other way around. ;)
